Another week of changes.

Last week I’d say I did pretty good… I cut my consumption of gluten 100%, dairy by 90%, and sweets… 45%. This is much harder for me. I’m trying to find foods that’ll curve my sweet tooth, while satisfying it. I’ve food prepped sweet potato and beet hash, spinach egg bites, and baked chicken. I have fresh and dried fruit along with fresh veggies readily available for snacking. I also bought a large jar of salted mixed nuts from Costco. I’m food prepping and menu planning to keep myself strong. It really is the biggest game changer.

As creatures of convenience, I’m convinced that people would eat better if it was easier. Plain and simple. I’m one of those people. Somedays I’m too lazy to cook and I go “let’s eat what’s easy, requiring the least amount of work”. And so, I food prep. It doesn’t necessarily mean I meal prep - I don’t really like eating the same meal everyday for a week - but I food prep. I cut my aromatics - onions, garlic, shallots, green onions, fresh herbs - and place them in a jar in the fridge. I’ll dice up potatoes and sauté them on the stove for easy reheating. I’ll cook double the amount of meat we need so I can create another meal with it tomorrow. It’s been working very well for me.

I also got a new book - I’m a sucker for finding outside help and resources. There’s been a lot of buzz around ‘eating with your cycle’, 'exercising with your cycle’, and living according to your cycle each month. This isn’t a bad thing - at least according to my unprofessional opinion. There’s a lot of benefits of nourishing your body based on what it is doing each month. As women, our bodies are constantly changing. Our hormones change ‘places’ throughout each month. We should be catering to that. Also- I’ve seen and heard of the many benefits of feeding and exercising according to your hormones. Women who haven’t had a ‘regular’ cycle in years, have restored their cycles’. It’s quite fascinating. Therefore the food we eat directly affects our bodies, down to hormone production.

I’m on that journey right now. The other day I found myself inside a Barnes and Noble and I bought Meals She Eats by Tom and Rachel Sullivan. I had seen them on instagram (before I deleted mine), but in the research of ‘eating’ in tune with my cycle, I discovered many people referencing them and their book. So, I bought it. I figured what would it hurt? I don’t know what foods to eat during cycle phases, so I needed some sort of structure… also, they write for the common man, i.e. me. Their book is easy to follow and not hard to understand. It’s not just food syncing, but also learning to journal symptoms, exercises for each phase, and how to advocate for yourself. I’m eager and excited to learn from them, considering she dealt with many issues that I have and here they are - thriving in their new lifestyle. I’m happy to join them.

I’ll keep y’all up-to-date on my journey and progress… I did make their turkey meatballs last night - ah-mazing! So, this is already looking like a delicious ride!
