just in case you were wondering: Texas sunsets never get old. God's imagination is evident and never ending in the picture He paints every night, with the sunset.

life has been a bit of a whirlwind this summer. from the ever daily struggle of herding and maintaining animals, gardening in the Texas heat, or this years never ending storms, and just daily life. the ideals of summer are ones of relaxing, tropical vacations, or catching a breather, but each summer I blink and the summer is coming to a close. oh, we still have a few weeks left before the school year, and a month or two left of summer heat, but fall is approaching. with that, I will hold tightly to the last strings of summer and soak in every moment of my favorite season.
if there's one thing I've learned in my life - well, I like to think I've learned many things but, in this instance: you cannot tame goats. they have a mind of their own and they always manage to ruin everything. they get out of every fence line. eat everything you want them not to touch. and leave little presents wherever they go. I do not regret having them... at least most of the time. they just seem to be magnetically drawn to my garden beds, because, you know, we don't have enough land for them to rummage up their own food. they have their own pasture and yet, my garden beds take the brunt. but living here, you must contribute to the home or land - so even the rowdy goats, with their stubbornness, have to serve a purpose. and they do: eating our garden. no, it's just sometimes hard to understand why they're here when they're destroying all your work in the matter of seconds. thankfully, they love poison ivy, so that never overruns our land. and the kids, make cute pets for my young nephew. this kidding season we had roughly fifteen kids born. we've sold many and have kept several for ourselves - for growing the herd and consumption. goat is much more appetizing than you would think.
with that, I will spare you the excess of my rambling and leave you with a photo dump. we spend much of our summer hanging out with our sweet nephews, feeding and watering chickens, and shaking our heads over the time we spend on growing tomato plants just to have wild ones sprout up all over the land. it's fine. I don't feel like my time is wasted. but look, my aloe vera I bought last summer is blooming like no other. guess, I should stick with succulents that only need to exist to grow. oh, but check out our new neighbor and peep the cutest little smile. :)
