what comes to mind when you think of london? is it subway stations? people drinking tea all day? busy crowds pushing their way past you? tourists wearing union jack hats, t-shirts and so on? double decker buses swerving between lanes? or is it flowers and greenery? people riding bikes around you? gloomy skies and rainy days? gentle buzzes of bees? enjoying a cup of tea before bed? a mellow sun peeping behind clouds...
well if you said yes you would be correct. london was all that and more. it was pouring rain without the storms, a soft breeze with rays of sunlight. it was a tea kettle and tea complimentary of the hotel. pastries lining every shop in town. it was the royal parks offering the countryside in town. the blooming flowers... types I have never seen before. it was simply spectacular.
but london was more than that. it was the thames river, with boats and tours, the tower bridge in a rainstorm, and the changing of the guard at buckingham palace, where the military band played star wars but never God save the king. it was walking over 30 miles, 65000 steps, burning hundreds of calories. blisters on our toes, aching feet, and sore legs. it was screaming I'm a tourist with our liter water bottles and grocery dinners.
but it was perfect.
there have been many a time, as we've watched british airways a380 or an american airlines 777 depart in to the open skies, I've told chris I wish I was going there. he always said someday babes. well that someday was july 29. we boarded a plane and off we were into the night skies heading to heathrow international airport. I guess technically that someday was july 30 when we landed on british soil. but it was then, our journey began.
a short walk through customs, dropping my glasses, kicking them across the floor and completely embarrassing myself, landed us at the subway station. we headed to the opposite side of london, where we walked 15 minutes in a down pour to our hotel. having learned from past experiences, to avoid jet lag, you stay awake. so we showered off the 12 hour of airport and plane air and hung our clothes out to dry. we headed to an english pub, where we dined on fish and chips with a pitcher of beer.

the next day...
