UTAH: The desert's heaven, must do's, and the Red Cliff bucket list

I had never been to Utah, it was on my bucket list. I always dreamt of seeing the beautiful orange-red colored mountains and desert in person. Some people find the desert blah, but I was convinced I would love it. And oh boy, was I right! I could not get enough of the western plains. The sky-high mountains. The crystal blue lakes with the sun glistening off the rippling waters. I know I would be the happiest little person to live in the mountains.

We spent our honeymoon backpacking across Utah. Up mountains, across plains, and wading through water. Of course, it was wintertime, so we did some sledding down hills covered in ice. But, it was breathtaking. I would go back in a heartbeat. One spot in particular, which if you are staying in St. George, is a perfect 30 minute drive. I recommend St. George for multiple reasons, one- adorable town and parks to explore within a 20 mile radius. Secondly, decent middle grown for visiting the national parks and large parks like Bryce Canyon and Zion. Thirdly, the Red Cliffs are not far. We woke early one morning, packed our breakfast in our backpack, picked up some coffee, and went out to watch the sunrise across the cliffs. There is a reason they are called the Red Cliffs. The cliffs are literally red, and as the sun rises over the horizon, the cliffs burn. The sun ignites them and they shine brighter than ever. It was almost like a fire, but not. It was beautiful.

I won't bore you with all my literacy, but if you're debating visiting Utah. Stop. pack your bags, board a flight, and go there. Hike every trail you can. Don't over do yourself, but do what you can. Even if you only hike the easiest and shortest trails, you will see things you had never seen before. You will fall in love with nature all over again. I still reminiscence over our time there, the views, the wind. The wide open deserts and the cliffs and canyons on every trail. I will go back. Maybe not today, but someday. And when I do, I will share with you. Everyone must go to the mountains...

It is calling your name. And mine... bon voyage, my friends. bon voyage.
