each year I, impatiently, wait the coming of spring. there is nothing more joyous than witnessing the dead grass, bare trees and cloudy gray days turn over to bright green, blooming with leaves and buds. the feeling of the sun’s warmth with a cooling breeze across your face. the majestic blue sky open with wonder, brightening the whole earth. it’s a time of new life. of new joy. everyone seems more pleasant and walk with a spring in their step. there’s nothing that can replace it. there’s a sense of newness – of new beginnings that await us each spring. winter can often seem dark and gloomy – especially for people like me who feel down with the dark days – that spring brings rebirth. spring brings a joy to your heart. it is as though the earth is singing. it has been dead and can’t help but rejoice in its new life.
it’s no wonder Easter is in this most joyful season. with the world in darkness from sin, awaiting the Light. it’s Savior. to come down from heaven and cast out the darkness. to shine upon the earth and make it new again. and so we wait. for our hearts to be filled with the ever loving mercy of Christ. we journey through Lent and even Holy Week with our eyes fixed on the Cross. the Cross that came and conquered. I often see Lent and especially Holy Week as a “sad” time. I feel a heaviness in my heart but why? this is the story of our salvation. we should be joyful. as winter awaits spring to bud forth new life. we await Christ and His Passion to bring the living life to our souls. Christ is our springtime.
